Jaipur Literature Festival
Late January, over about five days

The festival was founded in 2006 and grew from a small gathering into a crowded week of talks, debates and book launches across several stages. It ran for many years at Diggi Palace and has more recently been held at Hotel Clarks Amer on the Jawaharlal Nehru Marg. Venue, registration and pass rules change, so check current status before you travel.
Sessions run in English, Hindi and other Indian languages, and the line-up mixes fiction, history, politics, science and poetry. The most popular sessions fill early, and the grounds can be very crowded at weekends. Evening music events are held separately and may require their own tickets.
We plan two festival days with a car on call, so guests can leave for lunch at a quieter hotel and return for the afternoon sessions. January is also the best month for Jaipur itself: clear days around 22 °C and cold mornings near 8 °C. Book Jaipur rooms early, as festival week overlaps with wedding season.
How to do it well
- Register online in advance; check current status before you travel
- Weekdays are calmer than the weekend
- Keep mornings free for Amber Fort before the festival opens
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
When is the Jaipur Literature Festival
It is held in late January each year and usually runs for about five days. Dates are announced a few months ahead on the official festival site. Check current status before you travel, and book Jaipur hotels early because festival week falls in the peak season.
Is the Jaipur Literature Festival free
For many years entry was free with online registration, but pass types, fees and rules have changed over time, and some events need separate tickets. Check the official festival site for the current arrangement before you travel. We handle registration for our guests.
Where is the Jaipur Literature Festival held
It was held for many years at Diggi Palace in central Jaipur and has more recently moved to Hotel Clarks Amer. The venue is set each year, so check current status before you travel. From Rambagh Palace either venue is a short drive.
How many days should I spend at the festival
Two days is enough for most travellers: choose sessions in advance, then leave room for the rest of Jaipur, such as Amber Fort at opening. Serious readers often stay for three or four. We pair the festival with Ranthambore or Udaipur, both excellent in late January.
