A five-night break for rhinos and the Brahmaputra: a night at Vivanta Guwahati for Kamakhya and a river sunset, three nights at Diphlu River Lodge with four or five private jeep drives across Kaziranga's ranges, and a final night in Guwahati with Pobitora or the silk weavers of Sualkuchi.
For travellers with a week or less, this short break focuses on one of India's great wildlife experiences. Three nights at Diphlu River Lodge give time for four or five private jeep drives across Kaziranga's Central, Western and Eastern ranges, with rhinos almost certain and wild buffalo, swamp deer, elephants and winter birds likely.
A night at each end in Guwahati, at Vivanta, softens the travel and adds the city's best: Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill, a sunset on the Brahmaputra, and on the last day either a dawn rhino drive at Pobitora or a morning with the silk weavers of Sualkuchi. It works as a long weekend from Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata.

Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is five nights enough for Kaziranga?
Yes. Three nights at Kaziranga allow four or five jeep drives across the main ranges, which is enough for excellent rhino sightings and a good variety of other wildlife and birds. The nights in Guwahati add the city's temple, river and silk.
When is the best time for a Kaziranga short break?
Mid-November to April, when the park is fully open. December to February is cool and dry with misty mornings; March and April are warmer, with fresh grass drawing animals into the open. The park is closed from about May to October.
Can I fly into Jorhat instead?
Yes. Jorhat airport is about 2 hours from Kaziranga. Flying in or out of Jorhat shortens the drive, though it means fewer flight options and missing a Guwahati night. We plan whichever suits your flights.
Will I see a tiger?
Possibly, but sightings are rare in Kaziranga's tall grass. Rhinos are almost certain, and wild buffalo, swamp deer, elephants and many birds are likely. Fresh tiger pugmarks on the tracks are common.
Is this short break suitable for families?
Very. Children enjoy the jeep drives, the boats on the Brahmaputra and the lodge's riverside setting. Drives are short, and afternoons are restful. Diphlu River Lodge welcomes families.
How much does the Kaziranga short break cost?
From about ₹1,65,000 per person, twin sharing, including hotels, full board at Diphlu, private safaris, park fees, a private car and guide, and Guwahati activities. Prices vary with season. Flights are extra.
Can I add the tea gardens?
Yes. Two nights at Wild Mahseer near Balipara, about 2.5 hours from Kaziranga, add a tea estate stay and Nameri's forest. That makes a seven-night journey, similar to our Kaziranga and Assam tea gardens itinerary.
What should I wear on safari?
Muted colours, a warm layer for early mornings, a hat, sunglasses and comfortable shoes. Open jeeps are dusty, so a scarf helps. Binoculars matter more than a long lens for enjoying sightings.
Do I need a permit for Kaziranga?
No permit is needed for Assam. Park entry and jeep permits are paid at the gate, about ₹100 for Indian adults and ₹650 for foreigners, plus the jeep. We arrange all of this for you. Check current status before you travel.
