The Savitri temple sits on top of Ratnagiri hill south-west of the town and is dedicated to Brahma's first wife. According to tradition she retreated here in anger after the ritual at Pushkar. For pilgrims it is an important part of a Pushkar visit, and for visitors it is the best viewpoint in town.

The walk up is about 1.5–2 km of steps and path, around 40–60 minutes for most people. A ropeway also runs up the hill and makes it easy for seniors and families, though it may not run at the earliest hour. Check current status before you travel. We leave the hotel in the dark with a torch and a flask of tea.

From the top, Pushkar sits around its lake, the town's white temples catch the first light and the dunes stretch out towards the fair ground. In fair week the camels and tents are visible below. After sunrise we come down for breakfast and a walk round the waking town.
