The Agra–Lucknow Expressway runs about 300 km through farmland with clean rest areas and little traffic. Leave Agra after a sunrise Taj visit and breakfast, around 10 am, and arrive in Lucknow by mid-afternoon in time for an evening food walk. In winter, fog can slow the morning; we wait until it lifts.

Several express trains run between Agra and Lucknow in about 6 hours. They are comfortable in air-conditioned classes but slower than the expressway and subject to fog delays in December and January. We use them only on request.
Not direct
There is no practical direct flight between Agra and Lucknow. Flying via Delhi takes longer than driving. Check current status before you travel, as new routes appear from time to time.

How long is the drive from Agra to Lucknow?
About 5 hours for roughly 335 km, most of it on the Agra–Lucknow Expressway. Add time for city traffic at each end and in winter fog. With a break at a rest area, most of our guests arrive in Lucknow by mid-afternoon.
Is the Agra–Lucknow Expressway safe?
Yes. It is a modern, fenced, access-controlled expressway with good surfaces and rest areas. The main risks are high speeds and dense fog on winter mornings. Our drivers keep to safe speeds, avoid night driving in fog and stop if visibility drops.
Can I stop at Kannauj between Agra and Lucknow?
Yes. Kannauj, known for traditional attar perfume distilling, lies near the expressway, and a short detour lets you visit a distillery where flowers are steam-distilled into sandalwood oil in copper vessels. It adds about two hours to the journey. Small bottles of attar make easy gifts to carry home.
Is it better to go from Agra to Varanasi via Lucknow?
For most of our guests, yes. Driving to Lucknow, spending a night or two, and continuing to Varanasi by road or train avoids an indirect flight via Delhi and adds Lucknow's food and architecture. The total journey is about 635 km across two days.
