The Indo Hokke Hotel

The Indo Hokke Hotel was built for Japanese Buddhist pilgrims visiting Rajgir and Nalanda, and its design and atmosphere still reflect that: calm grounds, a restrained style and an emphasis on order and cleanliness. It welcomes all guests and is popular with pilgrim groups from across Asia.
Rajgir has no luxury hotels, and we are clear about that. The Indo Hokke offers comfortable rooms and good housekeeping in a peaceful setting, close to the road up to Vulture Peak and the Vishwa Shanti Stupa, and about 25 minutes from Nalanda. It suits travellers who value quiet over polish.
Why we book it
- Quiet, orderly and well kept
- Close to Vulture Peak and the ropeway
- Used to international Buddhist pilgrims
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is the Indo Hokke Hotel a luxury hotel?
No. It is a comfortable, well-kept hotel rather than a luxury property, and Rajgir has none of those. Its strengths are calm, cleanliness and a location convenient for Vulture Peak and Nalanda. We use it as the best available base in Rajgir.
How far is the Indo Hokke Hotel from Nalanda?
Nalanda is about 12 to 15 km from Rajgir, roughly 25 minutes by car. Vulture Peak and the Vishwa Shanti Stupa ropeway are a short drive from the hotel. Two nights here allow both without rushing. Pawapuri, about 20 km away, also makes an easy half-day trip.
Do non-Japanese guests stay at the Indo Hokke Hotel?
Yes. Although built with Japanese pilgrims in mind, the hotel welcomes guests of all nationalities and is used by pilgrims and travellers from across Asia, Europe and India. Staff are used to international visitors. The hotel's quiet, orderly atmosphere suits pilgrims and travellers alike.
