Taj Guras Kutir Resort & Spa

Taj Guras Kutir is an IHCL resort, and it changes the options for luxury travellers who previously had to choose between older heritage houses and business hotels. The design takes cues from Sikkimese architecture, with sloping roofs, timber and painted detail, and rooms are oriented to the hills. On clear mornings between October and April the snow ranges stand out across the valley.
We use it as the main Gangtok base on journeys that include long excursion days to Tsomgo Lake, Rumtek or the drive north to Lachung, when a spa and a quiet room at the end of the day make a difference. The kitchen can prepare Sikkimese dishes such as thukpa, momos and gundruk soup on request. Confirm the exact location against your touring plan, as some outings start early.
Why we book it
- Full Taj service in Sikkim
- Spa and mountain-facing rooms
- Sikkimese design cues and local cooking
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is Taj Guras Kutir in Gangtok town?
It is in the hills around Gangtok rather than on MG Marg, so you drive into town for the markets and monasteries. That gives quieter nights and better views than central hotels. We plan daily touring from the resort with your driver, and add a central evening in town if you want to walk MG Marg after dark.
When is the best time to stay at Taj Guras Kutir?
October to early December and March to May are best. October and November give the clearest views of the snow peaks, and March to April brings rhododendrons in bloom, which suits a resort named after the flower. June to September is wet, with cloud hiding the mountains for days.
Is Taj Guras Kutir good for families?
Yes. Rooms are spacious by Gangtok standards, the resort has open grounds, and the Taj kitchen is used to children's requests. For families we usually plan one excursion day at a time, with a gentle afternoon at the resort, as Sikkim's mountain roads can tire younger travellers.
