Sunrise yoga on Mandrem beach

Mandrem and Ashvem have drawn yoga teachers and students for decades, and the stretch has several established shalas and visiting teachers in season. We arrange a private class with a teacher we know well, rather than a drop-in group class, and adapt it to your experience, from complete beginners to long-time practitioners.
The class starts at about 6.45 am, when the beach is cool and empty and the light is soft. A typical session runs 75 minutes, with breathing practice, a sequence of asanas in the Hatha or Vinyasa tradition and a short meditation as the sun clears the palms. Mats, cushions and water are brought to the beach.
Afterwards, there is fresh fruit and coconut water at a café by the creek, or breakfast back at your villa. For longer stays, we can arrange a daily class with the same teacher and an Ayurvedic massage in the afternoon.
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is Mandrem good for yoga?
Yes. Mandrem and Ashvem have long been centres for yoga in Goa, with established shalas and experienced teachers in season, from November to March. The beaches are quiet in the early morning, which suits a private class on the sand.
Do I need experience for a private yoga class?
No. A private class is adapted to you. Beginners focus on breathing, posture and simple sequences; experienced students can work on a more demanding practice. Tell us about any injuries in advance so the teacher can plan.
Can we arrange yoga every day of our stay?
Yes. For stays of four nights or more, we can arrange a daily class with the same teacher at your villa or on the beach, and combine it with Ayurvedic treatments and simple, light meals cooked by your villa's chef.
