Chamba Camp Thiksey
Run by The Ultimate Travelling Camp, Chamba Camp sits in the village of Thiksey, among fields and willows, with the tiered white buildings of Thiksey monastery rising on the hill behind. The tents are large and furnished like hotel rooms, with proper beds, en-suite bathrooms and heating for cold nights. Meals are served in a dining tent, and the staff look after guests closely. Evenings are quiet. Service is attentive.
The setting is the reason to come. You can walk to the monastery for dawn prayers, return for breakfast, and spend afternoons on excursions to Hemis, Shey and Stok. The camp operates only in the summer season, roughly from late spring to early autumn. Check current status before you travel. It is one of the most expensive stays in Ladakh, and books early for July and August. Book early. Rates are high.
