The Grand Dragon Ladakh

The Grand Dragon stands on the edge of central Leh, a short drive from Main Bazaar and about 15 minutes from the airport. The building is modern, with Ladakhi touches in the woodwork and textiles, and the rooms are generous by Leh standards. Ask for a room facing the Stok range, which catches the first light on clear mornings. Staff are attentive. Rooms on higher floors have the best views.
What matters most at altitude is that everything works: steady hot water, heating, good food served on time and staff who know the signs of altitude sickness. The Grand Dragon does these things reliably, and it stays open through the winter, when most Leh hotels close. That makes it our base for snow leopard trips and winter festivals as well as for summer journeys. We rely on it. Staff are helpful.

Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is The Grand Dragon Ladakh open in winter?
Yes. The Grand Dragon is one of the few hotels in Leh that stays open all year, with central heating through the winter. That makes it our first choice for snow leopard trips and winter festivals from December to March. Check current status before you travel, as services can be reduced in the coldest weeks.
How far is The Grand Dragon from Leh airport?
The hotel is about 4 km from Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, a drive of around 15 minutes. We meet you at arrivals and transfer you straight to the hotel, where the first day is kept for rest and acclimatisation. Early check-in is usually possible.
Can we walk to the bazaar from The Grand Dragon?
Main Bazaar is a short walk or a five-minute drive away. On your first two days we suggest using the car, because even gentle slopes feel steep at 3,500 m. From the third day, walking into town in the evening is pleasant.
