Windermere Estate
Windermere Estate sits on a slope above the valley at Pothamedu, close to Munnar but well away from its traffic. The grounds are a working plantation of cardamom, coffee and spices, with paths through the gardens and long views over tea estates and the hills. Accommodation is in cottages and rooms in a planter's bungalow style, with wooden floors and large windows.
The atmosphere is that of a private estate rather than a resort. Meals are served in a dining room with views, using produce from the estate and local farms, and in winter a fire is lit in the evenings. Staff can arrange walks on the estate and through neighbouring tea gardens. We book the higher cottages for the best views.

How far is Windermere Estate from Munnar town?
About 3 km, roughly 10 minutes by car, at Pothamedu on the hillside above the town. It is close enough for easy access to Munnar's sights but far enough to be quiet. Eravikulam National Park is about 15 km away.
Is Windermere Estate suitable for families?
Yes. The estate has larger cottages and room to walk in the gardens, and children enjoy the plantation walks. There is no large pool or kids' club, so it suits families who enjoy the outdoors and a quiet pace. Ask for adjoining cottages.
What is the best time to stay at Windermere Estate?
September to March for clear views and cool nights, especially December to February, when evenings fall to about 10 °C. April and May are pleasant when the plains are hot. In the monsoon, from June to August, the estate is misty and lush but views are often lost.
