Ten nights for families with children aged about 8 and over: Jaipur's forts and bazaars, block printing and kites, Mehrangarh in Jodhpur, leopards at Jawai and three relaxed nights in Udaipur. Short drives, long lunches and hotels with gardens and pools.
Rajasthan works well for families when the days are short and varied. This journey keeps sightseeing to the mornings and leaves afternoons for pools and gardens. In Jaipur, children climb Amber Fort, print their own fabric in Bagru and fly kites from a rooftop. In Jodhpur, Mehrangarh's armoury and ramparts are a hit, as are the blackbuck in the Bishnoi villages.
Two nights at SUJÁN Jawai bring leopard drives in open vehicles, and three nights in Udaipur end the trip slowly, with boat rides and a painting class. We choose hotels with space for families and room configurations that work.

Questions travellers ask
Good to know
What age is this journey suitable for
Children aged about 8 and over enjoy it most, as they can manage the forts and the drives. Younger children are welcome at most hotels, but some camps and safaris have minimum ages. Tell us ages early. SUJÁN Jawai sets its own age policy, and we confirm it before booking. If younger children are travelling, we can replace Jawai with more time in Udaipur or Jodhpur.
Is Rajasthan safe for children
Yes, with sensible planning. With a private car, an experienced driver and good hotels, families travel comfortably. Keep children close in crowded bazaars and drink only bottled or filtered water. Our guides are experienced with children, child seats can be arranged in advance, and we keep sightseeing to the mornings, so children are back at the pool before the afternoon heat.
Will children be bored by forts and palaces
Not with the right guides. We choose guides who tell stories, point out secret passages and armour, and keep visits short. Activities such as printing and kite flying add hands-on variety. Children climb the ramparts of Amber Fort, see the elephant howdahs in Mehrangarh, check the giant sundial at Jantar Mantar and look for leopards from an open vehicle at Jawai.
Can we replace Jawai with Ranthambore
Yes. Ranthambore is 3.5 hours from Jaipur and gives a chance of tigers. The route would then be Jaipur, Ranthambore, back to Jaipur and a flight to Udaipur. Forest department rules on children apply. This drops Jodhpur, or we keep it by adding nights. Ranthambore's main zones close from 1 July to 30 September; check current status before you travel.
What food will children find in Rajasthan
Hotels serve international food alongside Indian dishes, and kitchens adjust spice levels. Children often enjoy dal, naan, paneer and sweets. Tell us about allergies in advance. Breakfast is included daily, meals are full board at Jawai, and we plan lunches back at the hotel on most sightseeing days, so children eat familiar food when they want it.
Is the long drive to Jodhpur a problem
It is the longest day, around 5.5 hours. We stop at Pushkar for lunch and rest. The train is an option, which children often enjoy, with the car going ahead with luggage. The distance is about 335 km on day 4, and we leave after breakfast to reach Umaid Bhawan Palace by late afternoon. All other drives on this journey are 3 hours or less.
What is the best time for a family trip
October to March, especially during school holidays at Diwali, Christmas and February half-term. Book early for these dates, as palace hotels fill months ahead. Winter days are usually in the 20s °C, but dawn leopard drives at Jawai in open vehicles can be cold in December and January, so bring warm layers. From April the heat rises fast.
Can we have connecting rooms
Many hotels on this journey have villas, tents or connecting rooms suitable for families. Availability varies, so we confirm the configuration at booking. At The Oberoi Rajvilas, villas and tents give families space, and Umaid Bhawan Palace, SUJÁN Jawai and The Oberoi Udaivilas each have their own options. Tell us children's ages early, and we hold the right rooms before peak dates fill.
Is the price per person
Yes, per person, twin sharing, from the figure shown. Children's rates vary by hotel and age. We provide a full family quote once dates and ages are known. The price moves with the room configuration, such as villas or connecting rooms, and rises over Diwali, Christmas and New Year, when school holidays fill the palace hotels. Flights are not included.
