The Oberoi Udaivilas

Udaivilas opened in 2002 on land that was once a royal hunting ground on the lake shore. It was built in the Mewar style with domes, courtyards and water features, and it feels like a palace without being a converted one. A short boat ride connects it to the City Palace side, and the drive to the old city takes about 15 minutes.
The rooms with semi-private pools and the suites with private pools are the reason to stay, especially for honeymoons. We book lake-view categories where possible. The spa and the gardens make Udaivilas the best Udaipur choice for guests who want to slow down between sightseeing, and it pairs well with a shorter stay at the Taj Lake Palace.
Why we book it
- Rooms opening onto pools facing Lake Pichola
- Space and quiet across the water from the old city
- A strong choice for honeymoons and longer stays
Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Which rooms are best at The Oberoi Udaivilas
For couples, the premier rooms with semi-private pools facing the lake give the best mix of view and privacy. The suites with private pools suit honeymoons and longer stays. Garden or courtyard rooms are comfortable but lose the lake, which is the main reason to choose this side of Pichola.
How do you get from Udaivilas to the City Palace
By boat across Lake Pichola, which takes 10–15 minutes and is the more pleasant way, or by car round the lake in about 15–20 minutes. We use the boat for evening outings to the old city when lake levels allow, and the car for early starts and shopping.
Is Udaivilas good for a honeymoon
It is one of the best honeymoon hotels in India. The pool rooms give privacy, the spa is excellent and the lake views from the domed pavilions are memorable at sunset. We usually pair three nights here with one or two at the Taj Lake Palace, so the couple sees Udaipur from both sides of the water.
