Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is December a good time to visit Ladakh?
Winter settles in. Leh is quiet, with Losar celebrations in December or early January bringing families together and fire rituals in the villages. Snow leopard trips begin late in the month for those who want to avoid the January peak. Only heated hotels such as The Grand Dragon stay open. Flights from Delhi continue. Pack for −15 °C and heated rooms, and expect very quiet roads.
What is the weather like in Ladakh in December?
Leh −11 to 1 °C, dry, cold. Conditions differ by altitude and coast, so check the forecast for each stop a week before you travel.
Where should we go in Ladakh in December?
We suggest Leh, Hemis. Allow two full days of rest on arrival; cold makes acclimatisation harder.
