Ways to make the journey
40 min
From Assagao, the road runs north to Siolim, a village of old houses and the St Anthony's Church, and crosses the Chapora on the Siolim bridge to Chopdem. From there, a coastal road runs through Morjim and Ashvem to Mandrem. Traffic at the bridge slows in the evening, so we plan crossings in the morning or mid-afternoon.
30 min
From Manohar International Airport at Mopa (GOX), Mandrem is about 22 km and 30 minutes, closer than Assagao. Guests arriving at Mopa can spend the first nights in a Mandrem villa and move south to Assagao, or the reverse at the end of the trip.
30 min
In calm weather in the dry season, a private boat can be arranged from the Chapora jetty below the fort to the Morjim side of the river mouth. It depends on the sea and on local boatmen, so we arrange it only on request; check current status before you travel.
Worth a stop
