Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is April a good time to visit North East India?
Rongali Bihu marks the Assamese new year from about 14 April, with dancing in towns and villages across Assam, and Shillong hosts the Khasi spring dance, Shad Suk Mynsiem. In Sikkim the rhododendrons peak and the Lachung valley opens up. Kaziranga stays open but humidity rises and afternoon storms become regular. Good for festivals and the mountains, less so for long walks in Meghalaya.
What is the weather like in North East India in April?
Guwahati 20–31 °C, Shillong 14–23 °C, rain 130 mm and rising. Conditions differ by altitude and coast, so check the forecast for each stop a week before you travel.
Where should we go in North East India in April?
We suggest Guwahati, Gangtok, Lachung and Yumthang, North Sikkim. Plan Kaziranga drives for mornings only, afternoons in April often bring thunder.
