Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is March a good time to visit North East India?
Spring arrives. First flush plucking starts in the Assam gardens, Sikkim's rhododendrons begin to flower above 2,500 m, and Kaziranga remains open with good visibility. Late in the month the first thunderstorms roll over Meghalaya, though most days stay fine. A strong month for combining Sikkim with Assam, and the last comfortable month for the Assam plains before the heat builds.
What is the weather like in North East India in March?
Guwahati 17–31 °C, Gangtok mild, pre-monsoon showers begin late. Conditions differ by altitude and coast, so check the forecast for each stop a week before you travel.
Where should we go in North East India in March?
We suggest Kaziranga National Park, Gangtok, Pelling. Ask for a first-flush tasting at the estate, the tea is lighter and greener than the familiar Assam.
