Questions travellers ask
Good to know
Is February a good time to visit North East India?
Still dry and bright, with warmer afternoons. Kaziranga is at its best as fresh green shoots draw rhinos and deer onto the burnt grassland. Monpa families in Tawang and Dirang celebrate Losar, the Tibetan new year, in February or early March, with prayer flags renewed and monastery dances. The tea gardens are quiet before the first flush, and the Umngot at Dawki runs low and glass-clear.
What is the weather like in North East India in February?
Guwahati 13–27 °C, Shillong 8–18 °C, Tawang below freezing at night. Conditions differ by altitude and coast, so check the forecast for each stop a week before you travel.
Where should we go in North East India in February?
We suggest Kaziranga National Park, Balipara Tea Country, Tawang. If you plan Tawang for Losar, pack for −5 °C mornings and allow a spare day for snow.
